Shamik has 40 years’ experience as a macroeconomist across the public and private sectors.
He has worked at HM Treasury, Oxford Economic Forecasting, Aviva Investors and the Bank of England, where he managed the Monetary Policy Division.
In 2014, he joined the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office as Chief Economist, advising three foreign secretaries about the impact of Brexit, and briefing ministers on the economics of Russia’s invasion of Crimea, the rise of ISIS, the Greek banking crisis and the election of Donald Trump.
In 2018, he joined BNY Mellon Investment Management (now BNY Investments) as Global Chief Economist. There he dealt with fund managers and business leaders on the economic and market impact of COVID and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, amongst other things.
Shamik graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), and took a Master’s in Economics from Queen Mary College, London. He also spent a year as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996.
