First awarded in 2013, the ICAEW Scotland Trainee Chartered Accountant of the year Award is one of the ways that we celebrate the achievements of the next generation of accountants.
This year’s winner in 2021, Taylor Thompson, was announced by ICAEW Scotland President, Stelios Kornaros, at our virtual meet-up with ACA students in Scotland.
On receiving the news of his award, Taylor said,
“I am delighted to have been awarded ICAEW Scotland Trainee Chartered Accountant of the year and am especially grateful to my family and friends who have supported me through these exams.”
Meet this year’s winner
Taylor comes from Northumberland and studied Music at the University of Oxford. After exploring a career in teaching, he Joined PwC LLP in 2018 where he began studying towards the ACA qualification.
After gaining experience in Assurance, he joined the firm's Indirect Tax team in Edinburgh. He notes that 'the ACA is such a diverse qualification that opens up a variety of opportunities, even to those without a background in accounting and finance'.
Taylor is now a Senior Associate in PwC's Business Recovery Services practice and is keen to develop his skills further in this exciting field.
Outside of work, he continues to play the piano and enjoys spending time in the countryside.
About the award
The ICAEW Scotland Trainee Chartered Account of the year award has been presented to the trainee with the highest marks in their final exam every year since 2013. The trophy was designed and handmade by Joanne Taylor of Callua Glass.
