Biography
I was born and raised in Manchester, and completed my degree in Mathematics and Economics at the University of Cambridge. I have an MBA from INSEAD (France), and am a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. As well as my ACA qualification, I am a CPA (New York).
My career has alternated between practice, business and consulting, in the fields of accounting and finance, in small, medium-sized and large organisations.
In practice, I was articled with a small Manchester firm, and also worked for KPMG (1976-1982), and was a partner with Ernst & Young in the Paris Capital Markets Group from 2000 to 2003.
In business, I have taken the roles of controller and CFO in small, medium and large multinational companies, both at head office and in subsidiaries.
I have worked in a wide range of industries, including IT, engineering, metals, telecom, satellite, project management and private equity. I have worked in the UK, USA, France, Monaco, Hong Kong and now Melbourne, where I have lived for four years with my wife and two children (aged 34 and 35).
I have been an active participant in local ICAEW member organisations from my student days, then as co-founder of the association in New York, later a founding committee member in Paris, and now Vice-Chair of the Melbourne group.
Currently, I am Senior Advisor with Hindal Corporate, a boutique investment bank, advising on capital market and private equity matters. I am also a director of a number of not-for-profit organisations in Melbourne.
