Biography
William Brooks graduated in Economics from Lancaster University Management School and completed his ACA training in 1980 with Dearden Farrow. He joined Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co (now KPMG) where he stayed for five years, specialising in banking and securities work. He then made his career in the City of London, rising to become CFO of a clearing member of the London Stock Exchange.
He established his consulting firm in the City in 1991, providing business planning, corporate finance advisory and fund management services under FSA regulation. He has served as a Non-Executive Director (NED) for many years and now specialises in governance and corporate strategy. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (the Chartered Accountants’ Livery Company) and has been a member of its Court of Assistants since 2015.
Will has been involved with ICAEW since 2000. He served for nine years as an examiner for the Advanced Case Study and from 2007 to 2011 as a member of the Disciplinary Committee. In 2009/10, Will was President of the London Society of Chartered Accountants. He was elected to ICAEW Council in 2011 and to the Board in 2016.
He will serve as ICAEW President from June 2021.
