Interview with Mark Tucker ACA, group chairman of HSBC Holdings Plc

Often, as chartered accountants, we look at those ahead of us, including CEOs, CFOs, partners and board chairs, and wonder: “What do I need to do to be in their position in a few years’ time? What issues do they face? What are their real thoughts on the key issues of the day?”

There are many great resources available to help address some of these questions, including ICAEW resources. But what better way than to get the answer straight from the source; those at the top now, such as Mark Tucker ACA, Group Chairman of HSBC Holdings Plc.

On the evening of Thursday May 9, I was fortunate to co-host with Denis Sop & Khadija Ali as Mark participated in a panel interview and Q&A session with Chartered Accountants at the London School of Economics.

To enable a frank discussion Chatham House Rule applied, but suffice to say we as interviewers, and the audience though Q&A,  pressed him for his views on how to build a successful career today, what he would do differently in his career, how to lead organizations, the future relationship between the West and Asia, diversity & inclusion and more!

The session was very well received, with many saying they would take away something from Mark to apply in their business or in their careers.

The event was supported by the ICAEW London Society of Chartered Accountants, and was attended by over 250 Chartered Accountants – many from the ICAEW Younger Member London group.
