Final call for 2018/19 Tax Returns to qualify for SEISS

22 April: ICAEW is reminding members that self-assessment tax returns for 2018/19 must be submitted by 23 April to ensure eligibility for the Self Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS), as it shares the latest guidance in a webinar.

HMRC’s guidance is clear that taxpayers can only be awarded a grant under SEISS if they have submitted their 2018/19 tax return and continued to be self-employed in 2019/20.

The standard deadline for 2018/19 tax returns was 31 January 2020, but HMRC announced that the filing date for self-assessment tax returns for the tax year to 5 April 2019 would be extended until 23 April 2020 in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

This final reminder from ICAEW comes as it shares an hour-long webinar which delves into the details of SEISS.

The webinar, hosted by experts from the Tax Faculty, outlines how the support scheme will work; the eligibility criteria; and the computation of grants.

The free webinar, COVID-19: Support through the self-employed income support scheme (SEISS) and accompanying slides can be viewed online.
