MTD service unavailable on a VAT filing day

On 7 January 2020, the GOV.UK website experienced a technical issue which prevented VAT return filing using the Making Tax Digital system, read HMRC's message to affected users.

Following the problem, HMRC issued the following message to the share with affected users:

"Earlier today we experienced a technical issue which affected our digital services. As a result, the MTD service was unavailable for a period of time.

"As the incident occurred on a VAT filing day (7 January) we advise that any customers who were unable to file today try again tomorrow. Customers, or those acting on their behalf, will not receive a penalty for filing their return tomorrow.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused to those customers concerned.
