Keeping you in the know
In September, we published one of our most popular podcasts of 2026: Healey’s budget options are narrowing. ICAEW’s Chief Economist, Suren Thiru, was joined by Frances Haque, Chief Economist at Santander UK and David Wooding, Political commentator and former Sunday Express Editor, to talk about the fiscal reality facing the Chancellor in his first budget.
Listen now, to make sure you’re ahead of the game on 28 October. We will be recording a follow-up episode the day after the budget, so you’ll have our experts’ reactions to the key announcements within a few days.
Meanwhile, October brings our annual cyber-security episode, a perennial favourite which this year focuses on identity theft. Cyber criminals spend much of their time working on identity theft as the easiest way to gain access to systems. Hear from Kay Daskalakis, Senior Solutions Architect at SpecterOps, and Oli Venn, Watchguard Technologies, on how to identify the likely targets in your team and how to protect your businesses.
For auditors, preparers and those that use corporate reports, the government has announced the biggest potential shake up in a generation. In its Modernising Corporate Reporting consultation, the government has outlined proposals including, simplifying company size thresholds and extending certain exemptions, as well as streamlining accounting standards.
We have published two podcasts this month looking at the proposals. ICAEW’s Director of Corporate Reporting and Governance, Sally Baker, discusses the major changes with Debbie Crawshawe, from the Department of Business, Innovation, Science and Technology, in our latest Beyond Finance episode.
Meanwhile, you can get an auditor’s perspective on the consultation announcements in the very first episode of our new Audit Report podcast series. Led by Alex Russell, ICAEW’s Director of Audit and Assurance, this new series will be focusing on the factors that are shaping the modern audit profession.
In the first episode, Russell is joined by David Smith, Director of Quality and Professional Standards at Kreston Global; Matt Stroh, Audit Partner, Compliance and Ethics, at Azets and ICAEW’s own Katharine Bagshaw, Senior Manager, Audit Standards, for their reactions to the proposals and what they mean for auditors.
Staying on track with tax
The Audit Report is not ICAEW’s first topic-focused podcast, ICAEW’s Tax Faculty has been helming the Tax Track since the start of 2024.
Each month, Stephen Relf, Tax Technical Manager at ICAEW, is joined by experts from inside and outside the team to discuss the latest developments and offer practical support.
This year’s most popular episodes cover:
- making sure a tax return is correct and complete;
- new tax requirements for companies and directors; and
- how to prepare for a VAT enquiry.
In the latest episode, the faculty’s Adelle Greenwood and Katherine Ford, are offering advice on how to prepare for the mandatory payrolling of benefits in kind, as well as the latest developments in capital gains tax.
