Investing through turbulence: building resilient portfolios in an uncertain world
In this opening keynote, Dame Frances Cairncross will explore the shifting forces shaping national and global markets - from the post-Bretton Woods era to trade wars, populism, geopolitical fragmentation, global birth rates and life expectancy, burgeoning sovereign debt and challenging bond markets. With clarity and perspective, she will examine how long-standing economic assumptions may be breaking down and the potential implications for investors. This session will deliver an informed overview to help delegates reflect on the importance of having a resilient investment plan suited to turbulent and uncertain times.
10:05
Business protection
The loss or incapacity of a key individual can have serious consequences for any business, but you can mitigate the impact of such risks with the use of key person insurance, shareholder and partnership protection, relevant life cover and executive income protection. Ian Wilkinson from Perspective will join us to share some insights and advice on how we can take these actions.

Protecting your legacy: why Wills and LPAs matter in modern family and business life
Michael Rowland, Legal Director at Birketts, will explore the critical importance of planning ahead through real-life legal case studies. The session will illustrate the personal and financial turmoil that can arise when individuals lose capacity without the right legal safeguards in place, considering the legal and practical consequences of sudden incapacity in the absence of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), the complications that can arise in blended families, business partnerships, and property ownership and the emotional and financial strain caused by contested deputyship applications and mental health considerations. Building on the case study examples, the session will provide a clear, practical overview of the rules of intestacy and how they often fall short of real-world family and business needs, wills as a vital planning tool and lasting powers of attorney - how they work, who to appoint, and common pitfalls that can undermine their effectiveness.
11:30
Tax efficient structures for SMEs
The Autumn 2024 tax changes will have a once in a generation impact, particularly for SME owners. In this session James Kipping and Martyn Gordon from MHA will help you understand the implications of the changes to proactively structure your affairs to efficiently cascade wealth down the generations.
