When time is short, staff are stretched and cash is being watched carefully, this conference will bring short, interactive sessions focused on what matters most: wellness for you and your teams, access to finance, cyber security and technical updates.

At the same time, we recognise the need to look forward, and so will be providing these bitesize sessions on the net-zero journey for SMEs and the utilisation of social media in helping your business grow.

These practical bitesize sessions are focussed on what small businesses tell us are the most important issues. From mental health to cyber security, social media to net-zero, we will maximise learning given time has never been so precious.

Business social media - a crowded space? Whether you're new to it or have a strategy - there is something to learn for all.

For growth or survival, access to finance has never been so important. Explore the options and overcome the hurdles.

Mental Health

It’s not just looking after ourselves- equip your business with a mental health strategy and the tools to help your team.

The programme

Morning sessions

Chair's welcome

The importance of small businesses
The last 18 months have highlighted more than ever, just how important small businesses are. They provide opportunities for entrepreneurs and create meaningful jobs. A number foster local economies, keeping money close to home and supporting neighbourhoods and communities.
How to get started on your journey to net-zero
Many SMEs know why the journey to net-zero is important, but it is the how that can bring difficulties. In this session with those that have looked at and lived through the how, Richard Spencer, Director, Sustainability, ICAEW, Paul Adderley, Founder & Director, Beyond-Green and Scott Johnson, Founder, Kung Fu Accounting will delve into the specifics of how to get things done.
Cyber security - what you should be aware of
Join this session provided by the National Cyber Security Council. Practical support for small businesses, many who have moved virtual for the first time. At a time when resources are tight, and margins are squeezed, many do not have the time or resources to put together a full cyber policy and the very small finance teams are often having to cover all IT matters.
Legal health check - how resilient is your business?
Informal networking rooms
We miss being able to boost our members in smaller business networks; so please join us at lunch time to network in small groups to swap stories.

Afternoon sessions

Is there tax relief hiding inside yours or your clients property?
Catax will give an overview of Capital Allowances tax relief and why they are important in today’s climate. They will look to discuss who is eligible to claim and the opportunities that this can bring, updates to Capital Allowances legislation with some real life case studies and also discuss the value that specialist advice can bring to ICAEW members.
Access to finance for growth and survival
After a turbulent 18 months, many SMEs are now reassessing their funding needs and sources of capital for the future. In this session you will hear insights from a panel of experts on navigating a changing and diverse lending market for the short and long term.
Social media advice for small businesses - how they can hype themselves on social channels
If you have been running a business for years or just set up a new venture, effective communication and branding are crucial. Join Louise Brogan from The Social Bee for practical tips and advice on how you can better utilise available networks to market your small business.
Developing a culture of health & wellbeing: top tips for small businesses
ICAEW's Member rewards partner Howden Employee Benefits & Wellbeing will discuss the top tips for small businesses in developing a culture of health and wellbeing. They will explain how employers can create conditions for employees to thrive at work, the current health and wellbeing challenges for small businesses, what solutions are open to small businesses within the current healthcare challenge and how employee benefits can play a central role in recruiting and retaining the very best people.
