New guidance: Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) issues guidance on equality and discrimination issues during the coronavirus pandemic
The EHRC has issued guidance ‘Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance for employers’ on equality and discrimination issues during the coronavirus pandemic, to help employers avoid inadvertently breaching anti-discrimination laws.

Direct or indirect discrimination could occur, for example, when making HR decisions, involving employees in decision-making, communicating with employees, and setting up working options such as working from home.
The new guidance provides examples of particularly risky decisions, such as deciding which employees are asked to work from home, who to furlough, who to make redundant, or who to ask to take front-line roles.
The EHRC has also updated its guidance ‘Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance for employers: Reasonable adjustments for employees’ on the duty to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ for disabled employees, in the light of the pandemic.
