New guidance: Acas updates guidance on managing bereavement in the workplace

Employers will welcome updates to the Acas guidance helping them deal with employees who have suffered a bereavement.

The free updated guidance ‘Time off work for bereavement’ covers:

  • Leave and pay on death.
  • Death of an employee's child.
  • A stillbirth or miscarriage of an employee or their partner.
  • Parental bereavement leave and pay
  • What to do, and how to support an employee, following a death.
  • A death at work.

It includes details of the maternity and paternity leave rules for parents who have lost a pregnancy after 24 weeks, and the 2020 parental bereavement leave rules. There is also an example bereavement policy.
