New service: Companies House Webfiling service upgraded

Limited companies and their advisers using the Companies House Webfiling service to file company information will welcome upgrades that make the service more useful and secure, moving towards the Companies House goal of a single sign-in for all Companies House services.

The service allows users to file information for companies electronically. Previously users were required to log in individually for each company in order to file information, by signing on and then entering the company’s ‘authentication code’.

The new service allows access to all companies being looked after by the user via a single log in. The user can also authorise others, such as company officers or advisers, to access their account.

A director forming a new company can also digitally authorise themselves and other directors to file for the new company as part of the online incorporation process.

Companies House says that benefits of the new service include:

  • Multi-factor authentication.
  • Ability to link your company or companies to your WebFiling account to give you more control over your filings.
  • Ability to digitally authorise people to file on your behalf on WebFiling, and to remove authorisation.
  • Ability to see who is digitally authorised to file for your company.
  • Option to sign up to emails to help you with the running of your company.

Existing users will see that the new service is available when they next log in after it has gone live. They will be asked to provide further information that Companies House requires in order to operate the new service.

Those with a Companies House account for the ‘Find and Update Company Information Service’ will not be affected.

Recommendation

  • Existing users should update as soon as they can, and those not already signed up should consider doing so.
