New law: Government defers shift to UK-specific post-Brexit labelling regime

Businesses that place their products on the market in Great Britain can stop preparing to drop the EU’s labelling regime and move to the proposed post-Brexit, UK-specific regime, as plans to completely replace the EU regime with the new UK regime have been ‘extended indefinitely’ by the UK government.

The abandoned UK regime, known as ‘UK Conformity Assessment’ (UKCA), was intended to apply to products placed on the market in England, Wales and/or Scotland after Brexit, but this will no longer happen.

Instead, the UK government intends to continue to recognise the CE marking across England, Wales, and Scotland indefinitely.

Recommendation

  • Businesses can drop their plans to transition from EU labelling rules to UK post-Brexit labelling rules, and continue to comply with the EU regime.
