Sector focus: Housing market

Since the end of the first lockdown in May 2020, house prices have been on the rise each month. Padraig Floyd takes a look at the emerging trends


You would be forgiven for thinking the UK housing market suffered a major setback last year when millions were confined to their homes and hundreds of thousands lost their jobs. Yet by December, the average UK house price was £319,945, according to the Rightmove House Price Index. That’s an increase of 6.6% on the year (see graph at bottom of page).
