Ten thousand finance jobs to leave Britain

Around 10,000 finance jobs will be shifted out of Britain or created overseas in the next few years if the UK is denied access to Europe’s single market, according to a new Reuters survey of finance firms.

This is the first comprehensive public survey to ask the big firms what their plans are regarding moving jobs. It was conducted by email and telephone interviews between 21 August and 15 September, weeks after companies submitted detailed plans on their Brexit preparations to the Bank of England as required on July 14.

Nearly half (57) of the 123 banks, asset managers, private equity firms, insurers and exchanges with UK operations said they would have to move staff or restructure their business because of Brexit, which is taking place in March 2019.
