Reducing the size of board packs
Zsuzsanna Schiff talks to Hitesh Patel, independent NED and chair of the ICAEW Insurance Committee about how to reduce the size of the board packs
In recent years the length of board packs has significantly increased. There are various legitimate reasons for this, but for board and committee members to be able to cope, papers need to be more concise and the process of preparation needs to become more streamlined.
To achieve this, boards and committees need to take ownership of their papers, communicate what they need exactly and constantly make sure that these needs are met. Responsibilities for the papers need to be clearly defined and board members need to provide feedback to preparers on the quality of the papers.
