Employee misconduct in financial services has been hitting the headlines. Here, Liz Cooley explains the benefits of a strong code of conduct.

Employee misconductFrom public social media outbursts to intentional data breaches, employee misconduct is proving a common bugbear. According to a recent report from the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE), 24% of UK employees have been aware of misconduct at work. The Ethics at Work 2018 survey of employees United Kingdom found that the most common types of misconduct reported were:

“What is more or less common will obviously vary between workplaces,” explains John Palmer, senior guidance managing editor at ACAS. “Allegations of sexual harassment are more likely to make the headlines than an employee regularly turning up late for work without a good reason. However, both issues should be handled appropriately.”
