The Competition and Markets Authority has been granted powers to fine companies that take advantage of their customers. Morgan Wild of Citizens Advice looks at what more needs to be done
Essential service providers are failing people. Every day at Citizens Advice, we help hundreds of people with the consequences of those failures. Widespread, unfair price discrimination in a range of markets leads to loyal consumers losing billions every year.
Problems are even worse for those who struggle to engage with these markets. People with mental health conditions pay over £1,000 a year more for essential services – including insurance, savings and mortgages – than they would if they were designed with their interests in mind.
