Accountants have a vital role to play in representing risks on balance sheet to investors, writes Will Oulton, Global Head Responsible Investment at First State Investments.
The current coronavirus crisis has brought the relevance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects of investing to the fore and shone a harsh light on how prepared investors were in order to manage risks from environmental and social impacts that resulted.
The honest answer is that many were unprepared and remain so.
