TAXline News: June 2020

Frank Haskew, Head of the Tax Faculty, reports on recent developments at the Tax Faculty during June 2020.

We are very sorry to announce that our Technical Manager Sarah Ghaffari, who is on maternity leave, has accepted a new role at ICAEW as Head of the Business & Management Faculty. As a result, she will not be returning to the Tax Faculty. We wish Sarah all the best in her new role when she returns. We are delighted to report that Angela Clegg, who was on a temporary contract covering for Sarah Ghaffari, has accepted a permanent role on the Tax Faculty staff.

The response to the COVID-19 pandemic has dominated all the headlines for the past month and no more so than in tax, where the amount of activity it has generated has been unprecedented. The government’s decision to announce the introduction of the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS) on 20 March 2020, followed by the self-employment income support scheme (SEISS) on 26 March, have resulted in some of the busiest times we have ever experienced in the Tax Faculty.
