2. Digital record keeping requirements

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax requires sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over the threshold to maintain digital records of transactions using compatible software or spreadsheets.

3. Quarterly update requirements

MTD for Income Tax requires sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over the threshold to submit four quarterly updates of income and expenditure via HMRC-compatible software.

4. Year end tax return

MTD for Income Tax requires sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over the threshold to submit quarterly updates and, at year end, finalise records by making adjustments, adding or checking information and submitting a final declaration via compatible software. The deadline for this submission is 31 January following the tax year end.
