Get a head start on your ethics CPD

ICAEW has launched a new elearning course to give your ethical decision making a boost while helping you fulfil the ethics requirement that forms part of the upcoming changes to continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

From 1 November 2023, as part of the revised ICAEW CPD Regulations, ICAEW members and others within scope of the regulations will be required to undertake at least one hour of ethics training each year.

This is a crucial part of the CPD changes as ethical conduct underpins accountancy work. While the ICAEW Code of Ethics sets out the fundamental principles that govern the profession, applying these ethics in practice can often be challenging and a concern for financial professionals.

That’s why ICAEW has created its own Ethics CPD Course, offering members a straightforward, free and verified way to complete their ethics learning. And what’s more you can start the course now and have a head start on your verifiable CPD for the 2023/24 CPD year.

What the course covers

The new elearning course provides 12 hours of verifiable CPD activities divided into modules designed to help you develop your confidence and competence when making ethical decisions.

Delivered using a rich blend of learning assets and covering a range of specialist areas, including tax, audit and insolvency, the course allows you to study remotely and work at your own pace. Every time you complete a module, you’ll receive a certificate which counts towards your verifiable CPD hours.

When you’ve completed the course, you’ll have up-to-date knowledge and a deeper understanding of ethics, allowing you to demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct in your role, whether in industry or in practice.

88% of respondents felt more confident on ethics topics after finishing the course.

Increase your confidence

Initial feedback on the course has been very positive, with more than half of respondents saying the course exceeded their expectations and the rest saying the course met expectations. Plus, 88% said they felt more confident than before about the topics covered.

One member said, “It’s more than just the basic theories, and also more than CPD compliance,” while another noted, “It’s very comprehensive and made the learning very engaging through use of questions and videos.”

A new one-hour module will be added each year, allowing you to use the course to fulfil your CPD requirements annually. This additional module will focus on topical ethical issues, including those arising from the ethics advisory helpline.

ICAEW is considering further additions to the course and is considering including a new specialist module on Insolvency in 2024, as well as incorporating updates to the code of ethics.

The course is available now so why not start today and get ahead before the CPD year starts in November? Find out more
