Being away from your desk, doesn’t mean that you can’t access ICAEW support. The Institute created and continues to develop the MyICAEW app to support members on the move and visiting clients.
Keep up to date
The app, which can be downloaded from the IOS App Store and Google Play, offers a great way to stay on top of the latest developments in finance and business.
Each day the app is updated with the latest tax news and insights articles which offer practical support on changes to regulation and standards, as well as exploring accountancy best practice and developments in technology, such as AI.
Alongside daily articles, the app holds all of ICAEW’s podcast episodes in one place – Tax Track and Accountancy Insights – enabling you to browse the back catalogue and catch up on your CPD on your commute. Switch on notifications and the app will make sure you see the newest episode as soon as it’s available.
Speaking of CPD, the app offers handy access to make sure you’re up to date with your ICAEW CPD requirements. The amount of CPD ICAEW members are required to complete each year is dictated by your role, the type of work you carry out and the organisations and individuals you work with.
When your role or client list changes, it’s a good idea to double check whether that has changed your CPD requirements. You can do this via the app which links you through to ICAEW tools to help identify your CPD category.
Technical and tax support
The app doesn’t just contain feeds of new content but also holds a selection of key resources that are popular with our members.
The Tax Tables are a resource exclusive to the app and provide you with the most up-to-date rates of UK tax in your pocket. The tables cover:
- capital allowances,
- capital gains tax,
- car and van benefits,
- corporation tax,
- income tax and personal allowances,
- inheritance tax,
- national insurance contributions,
- pensions,
- stamp duty land tax, and
- VAT.
The app also provides access to the most popular helpsheets created by ICAEW’s Technical Advisory Service. The service works with ICAEW’s subject matter experts to create technical support based on real-life member queries.
You can download 19 helpsheets via the app covering a variety of issues, including the applying the latest changes to FRS 102. For example, there are helpsheets covering FRS 102 and leases, share options and preference shares which can all be kept on your phone.
Alongside financial reporting, the helpsheets on the app also cover support for those in practice to help them understand their responsibilities when approached by a new client; help for auditors on the process after resigning from an audit and guidance for members in industry on whether their company or group qualifies as ‘small’ under the Companies Act.
Making connections and career moves
It’s the time of year, where many consider their career options and whether it is time for a change. Downloading the MyICAEW app can help to ensure you don’t miss potential new roles.
The app includes a feed of the latest jobs posted ICAEW’s exclusive jobs board for members. You can see at a glance the job titles, location, salary and sector of potential roles and then click into posts for more information and the option to apply.
The app also offers members the opportunity network with your peers, sharing experiences and offering support wherever you are. Through the app’s ‘connect’ area you can read though the latest discussions, comment on others’ posts and share your own questions and thoughts.
Alongside open forums covering general and accounting subjects, there is a dedicated area for those looking for support on Excel. There is also an area for ICAEW members only, so you can post in confidence.
