Scenario
Pupils are asked to identify correlations between variables, such as exercise and sleep, and to look for trends in order to make predictions using scatter graphs.

Use and interpret scatter graphs of bivariate data; recognise correlation and know that it does not indicate causation; draw estimated lines of best fit; make predictions; interpolate and extrapolate apparent trends whilst knowing the dangers of doing so. |

Interpret correlation within the context of the variables, and appreciate the distinction between correlation and causation. Draw a line of best fit by eye, and use it to make predictions. Interpolate and extrapolate from data, and be aware of the limitations of these techniques. |
