David leads ICAEW’s work and public policy engagement in corporate finance and is widely recognised in the sector as "the voice of corporate finance". He has worked both as a principal in industry and a lead advisor at PwC. His areas of interest and expertise include: mergers and acquisitions, private equity, capital markets, and infrastructure advisory work. David has been actively involved in numerous initiatives designed to improve access to finance and business investment, including the Breedon Review, which led to the establishment of the British Business Bank; the development of the Business Finance Guide, which has been distributed to more than one million small and medium sized businesses; with HM Government on cyber security in corporate finance; and on the application of AI in advisory work. He is currently a member of the Cabinet Office expert panel on the National Security and Investment Act and also sits on the advisory board of the M&A Research Centre at Bayes Business School.
Raquel Edward (née Santos) qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC in South Africa. Raquel has extensive experience in corporate finance, initially at PwC in financial due diligence and transaction services, both in Johannesburg and in London, and more recently at London Business School as a career coach to experienced professionals during their Masters in Finance programme. During her time at PwC, she also helped overhaul a firmwide learning curriculum on professional skills and she supported the development of a new Global Deals graduate programme, taking responsibility for various workstreams including communication and expectation management. At the ICAEW, she draws on her diverse technical, learning and communication experience to lead on member communications and services.
Katerina is Manager, Capital Markets Policy. She is responsible for thought leadership in corporate finance technical and regulatory issues, engaging with and understanding the needs of corporate finance practitioners and producing best-practice guidance for faculty members. Katerina leads on ICAEW’s responses to corporate finance-related consultations and on the development of ICAEW guidance for market transactions. She is secretary to the faculty’s Technical Committee which comprises expert corporate finance practitioners. Katerina is a chartered accountant and has also worked in banking and as a freelance business writer.
Marc is a journalist and editor. He is also a chartered accountant. He qualified with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in 1993, before joining its corporate finance team. He worked for Smiths Group, as financial controller of their operating company Icore, and on M&A within the FTSE100 company’s industrial group. He retrained as a journalist and has written for a wide variety of publications, including the Independent, the FT, local newspapers. He has been editor of Corporate Financier since 2012. He wrote the two editions of the ICAEW’s Business Finance Guide, which was published with the British Business Bank and has been the most widely circulated ICAEW guideline. He has a mathematics degree from the University of Nottingham, is an ACA, and holds the diploma of journalism.
