HMRC MTD events
HMRC is hosting a series of events at its offices across the UK to help agents and software developers to prepare for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for income tax.
Registration is now open for the following events (all 11am to 3pm):
- Leeds: 28 October 2025
- Edinburgh: 11 November 2025
- Belfast: 19 November 2025

New HMRC tools
HMRC has published new online tools for:
- searching across all of its manuals; and
- checking if a claim for corporation tax overpayment relief can be made and, in the case of taxpayers only, making the claim.
HMRC's extra support team
A person contacting HMRC can ask for help from HMRC’s extra support team. However, the team can advise on certain areas only. HMRC has updated its list of those areas to include tax for employers, including employers’ pay as you earn.
Cost of freezing fuel duty rates
The House of Commons Library has published the research briefing Fuel Duty: Developments since 2022. The briefing refers to calculations performed by the Office of Budget Responsibility indicating that freezing fuel duty rates cost the government approximately £100 billion between 2011 and 2024 after factoring in the expected negative impact on demand for fuel from higher duty rates.
Welsh visitor levy
The Visitor Accommodation (Register and Levy) Etc. (Wales) Act 2025 has received Royal Assent. The Act allows councils in Wales to introduce an overnight visitor levy and requires the registration of all visitor accommodation providers in Wales.
The Welsh Revenue Authority is responsible for collecting and managing the levy and accommodation registration. It will hold the following webinars to help the tourism sector prepare for the changes:

30 September 2025 deadline for climate change levy
HMRC has reminded businesses of the 30 September 2025 deadline to report annual subsidy awards exceeding £100,000 from the climate change levy (CCL). HMRC’s guidance explains the subsidy reporting requirements and sets out the action required by 30 September 2025.
