Achievements in 2025
In 2025, the Tax Faculty:
- submitted 33 representations in response to consultations;
- published 272 news articles;
- delivered 21 webinars; and
- recorded 12 episodes of The Tax Track podcast.
The Tax Faculty has eight staff members who are qualified and experienced in tax. But the quality of the faculty’s engagement and output is only possible with the support and input provided by the active members (also known as volunteers) on its committees and sub-committees, and with the strategic direction provided by the Tax Faculty Board.
Tax Faculty Board
Applications are now open for up to two new members of the Tax Faculty Board. The Board is responsible for:
- developing the faculty’s strategy and ICAEW’s priorities on tax;
- reviewing activity and outcomes against those priorities;
- assessing the effectiveness of ICAEW’s policy and member guidance in the areas of tax;
- monitoring emerging issues that affect the tax profession;
- supporting chartered accountants who practice tax; and
- upholding high standards in the profession.
The Board meets four times a year, either virtually or face-to-face at Chartered Accountant’s Hall in London, in addition to monthly informal video calls. The role is voluntary. To find out more about becoming a Board member, see the role profile.
How to apply
All applications must be submitted by 6 February 2026 through the application portal. Shortlisting and interviews will take place in February and March, with final review and approval completed by early May 2026.
Technical committees
The Tax Faculty has sub-committees covering the following areas of tax:
- compliance and investigations;
- employment taxes and national insurance contributions;
- practitioner tax;
- private client;
- business tax; and
- VAT and duties.
The sub-committees generally meet four times a year, with a mix of in-person and virtual meetings, and there is contact throughout the year by email or videocall. Sub-committee members are encouraged to contribute to responses to consultations, attend meetings with HMRC as ICAEW’s representative or draft articles for members.
Each sub-committee is managed by an ICAEW staff member. The sub-committees report to the Technical and Oversight Committee which reports to the Board. There is also a Tax Policy and Reputation Committee. To find out more about the Tax Faculty’s committees and sub-committees, including how to join, please see the contact page.
“Joining a sub-committee is a great way to keep up to date on technical developments, meet with your peers and make a positive contribution to the profession. The committees are very welcoming with a strong team ethos which makes for a very enjoyable experience. Why not consider joining us?”
