As activity around non-financial reporting rules increases, candidates are sought for the role of Chair of the advisory committee, as well as members.

Applications have opened for key roles on the advisory committee responsible for shaping UK sustainability reporting standards, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has announced.

Candidates for the position of Chair and members of the UK Sustainability Disclosure Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) are being invited to express their interest in the roles, as activity surrounding non-financial reporting rules continues to ramp up.

As part of its Green Finance Strategy, the government has stated its intention to set up a framework to assess whether the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards are suitable for use in the UK.

The UK Sustainability TAC will provide recommendations for endorsing the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards for use in the UK.

The Chair of the TAC will play a crucial role in leading the committee’s engagement with the ISSB and shaping sustainability disclosures in the UK and globally. Candidates for the position should possess strong leadership skills, an understanding of sustainability disclosures and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders.

Additionally, applications for members of the TAC should demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of sustainability reporting and the work of the ISSB. However, applications from candidates with a thorough understanding of the UK political and regulatory environment and a broad policy perspective are also welcome.

Both the Chair and member positions offer an opportunity to influence the development of sustainability disclosures in the UK. Eligible candidates should demonstrate relevant experience, strong analytical skills and a commitment to transparency and integrity in corporate reporting. The closing date for applications is 25 June.

Sarah Dunn, Senior Manager, Corporate Reporting at ICAEW, says: “With the imminent publication of the ISSB’s new standards, we welcome the development of an appropriate mechanism for endorsing these standards for use in the UK. Recruitment of a Chair and the individual members of the UK Sustainability Disclosure TAC is an important first step in this process and ICAEW will be monitoring developments closely.”
