The Institute of Business Ethics (IBE) has worked with Professionals Against Corruption (PaC) to develop a series of training sessions designed to help professionals from different sectors to tackle corruption by promoting good ethical practices. 

The sessions are designed to be interactive and reflective of real world scenarios, involving a fictional case study around a property transaction. Attendees are encouraged to reflect on due diligence processes, duties and responsibilities, and assess their ability to spot red flags. Using this, they must decide whether the property transaction should go through or not. A panel of experts then helps participants to reflect on the ethical implications and consequences of their decisions.

The sessions will take place on the following dates:

• Monday 22 May 2023 (14:00-17:00)
• Thursday 29 June 2023 (9:30-12:30)
• Wednesday 20 September 2023 (9:30-12:30)
• Tuesday 17 October 2023 (14:00-17:00)
• Wednesday 22 November 2023 (14:00-17:00)

“The tentacles of economic crime spread across many sectors,” says David Gomez, ICAEW’s Senior Lead, Ethics. “These training sessions provide a valuable opportunity for accountants to work through scenarios with different professionals. It means that professionals can learn from each others’ experiences in spotting themes and red flags, leveraging the benefits of a cross-sectoral approach in combating economic crime.”

PaC was formed in 2016 after the London Global Anti-Corruption summit. In April 2018, PaC began collaborating with the IBE. 

The training session is aimed predominantly at SMEs to help them address critical ethical issues of bribery and corruption, money laundering and modern slavery. More information is available at the IBE website.
