Exam changes

From the 4 March we are implementing some changes on how to book ICAEW CFAB and ACA Certificate Level exams.

Booking an exam

The way students book their ICAEW CFAB / Certificate Level exams is becoming easier. From 4 March, they will be able to book their next ICAEW CFAB / Certificate Level exam via their online training file. They simply log into their training file, go to the Examinations tab and click on 'Apply for an exam'. This will take them straight to the booking site, alternatively they can also book via my.icaew.com/examsonline. They will book the exam with Pearson Vue, but wont need any additional log in details.

Calculator policy

In response to feedback from students asking if they can use their own calculators, we have updated the exam policy to allow this. From 1 January 2019, students will need to take their own calculator to the exam, from an approved list. No other makes or models will be permitted.

Identification requirements

The exam centre will expect to see two pieces of identification (ID). Visit the Pearson VUE website to ensure you take the accepted forms of ID with you. If you arrive at the exam centre without the required ID, you will not be permitted to sit the exam and you will need to book the exam again.

In addition to the current ID and admission requirements, when you arrive at the exam centre and at the start of the check in process, you will also be asked to provide a digital signature. This helps us to identify you and confirms that you agree with all the candidate rules. A high-quality digital photo will also be taken, using image-quality intelligence software to produce a standardised passport-style photo that meets rigorous quality standards.

The invigilator will then compare you signature and photo with your ID and previous exam data. All student data will be securely stored and protected by Pearson VUE in line with GDPR.

Reminder emails

Students will receive a reminder email 48 hours before their scheduled exam time. Students will need to ensure that all details are accurate and if their plans have changed, they can reschedule or cancel their exam up to 24 hours before they are due to sit to be eligible for a refund.

Software appearance

The exams look a little different. There will be no changes to the exam questions or the exam delivery software, but the colours used will reflect the new ICAEW brand.

Exam delivery platform

After a recent retender of the ICAEW CFAB/Certificate Level exam delivery services contract, we are pleased to announce that ICAEW has signed a further five-year contract with Pearson VUE.
