Tax charities respond to the COVID-19 pandemic

Stephen Banyard outlines how TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People are responding to the new and immediate needs created by the impact of COVID-19 on self-employed people.

CharityIn a world that is rapidly changing for all of us, the tax charities have acted quickly to meet the immediate needs of people who need government income support.

Tax advisers will have seen many clients who are hard hit. Some of those most affected economically are people already on low incomes whose livelihood, whether from self-employment or employment, has gone. Some of these are hoping to access government support for the self-employed. This requires them to have submitted accounts. Some on very low incomes may not have done so because they believed, mistakenly, that they didn’t need to submit accounts if their income was below their personal allowances.
