Byte size: Tech news round-up

UK advances in cyber security; the biometric future of online payment; the evolution of wireless charging; technology as a global risk; why a wifi and 5G alliance is critical; and a look at how Ofcom plans to smooth broadband switching. Sandra Vogel reports

The UK Government has set up a new body called the Cyber Security Council (CSC). Its aim is to set standards, and define career and learning paths for the cyber security sector. It will provide information for people wanting to start a career in this sector or to further their existing career, and will also work to increase diversity within the sector.

The overall aim is to bring the cyber security sector into closer alignment with other professions such as law, medicine and engineering. To reach that objective, one of the CSC’s roles will be to work with training providers to set standards, and accredit courses and qualifications.
