The Humberside & District Society Annual Golf Challenge took place on Thursday 7th September 2023 at the Cave Castle Golf Club on a day blessed with warm sunshine ensuring a great afternoon of golf.
The original trophy for this event was presented to the forerunner of the present society by J J Campbell in 1933 so the competition was played on the ninetieth anniversary of the gift. The competition has been staged seventy-eight times, there being no competitions during the war years and one or two other occasions. In that time there have been fifty-three different winners from both sides of the Humber and several members have won the trophy on more than one occasion, the record of being no less than a six-time champion going to Mr Peter Bradbury FCA, who was unable to be with us at this year's event. There were six members playing with four guests for whose attendance we are always grateful.

Since the original trophy award the event has blossomed into a North Bank/South Bank affair with a trophy for the best golfer from each region apart from an overall winner. This time last year's winner from each region Mr Andrew Robinson FCA and Mr John Canby FCA managed to successfully defend their titles and respectively won the Cole Shield and the Peter Bradbury Salver.

Ninety years on, the winner of the JJ Campbell Cup was Mr Richard Callis with a great score on the day of forty points. Next year the South bank will host the event and details will be available shortly.
