HMRC’s face-to-face workshops for tax agents on off-payroll working rules

2 March 2020: HMRC has asked ICAEW’s Tax Faculty to share the following invitation for tax agents to attend one of a number of face-to-face workshops on off-payroll working rules being held in March across the UK.

From 6 April 2020, medium and large-sized organisations outside the public sector, as well as public authorities, will be responsible for ensuring their contractors pay the right tax and NICs. The change is designed to improve compliance with existing rules and does not introduce a new tax.

To help small tax agents prepare for these changes, HMRC would like to invite you to a workshop to help you understand what it means for your organisation and what you need to do to be ready.

To book your place at one of HMRC’s workshops, please visit the following event links:

The password you will need to enter when prompted is WORKSHOP2020.

Please note that spaces are limited and will be offered on a first come first serve basis.

What is on offer

The workshop has been designed for Small Tax Agents and will cover:

  • An overview of the off-payroll working rules, to include responsibilities of clients, agencies and entities in the supply chain.
  • An overview of the Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool.
  • Reporting and paying Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions.

Members of HMRC’s Off-payroll Working Programme Team will be available to answer any questions. Please note advice on specific cases cannot be provided at the workshop.

Workshops will be held in multiple locations around the UK and each workshop will last approximately 3 hours.

If you are unable to attend a workshop, HMRC is also running live webinars on the off-payroll working rules. You can register for one here.
