Latest on HMRC's agent strategy and services

10 March 2020: HMRC is working to develop its strategy and services for tax agents. ICAEW’s Tax Faculty recorded a webinar on 5 March and published guidance to keep you up to date on the latest changes.

Political pressure for change in the market for tax services has been growing and has brought a renewed focus within HMRC.

Meanwhile HMRC is developing agent services in a rather piecemeal fashion. For new services, HMRC is introducing a requirement for clients to access their digital tax account to authorise their agent, an issue of great concern to the profession.

New information on the service to prepopulate commercial self assessment software with employment income and other data from HMRC’s systems has recently emerged.

All these developments were discussed by the Tax Faculty’s Frank Haskew and Caroline Miskin in a webinar on 5 March, which is available on demand now.

More support is available through two TAXguides published to accompany the webinar:

Finally, don’t forget you can help shape HMRC’s Charter by getting involved in the current consultation process.
