HMRC extends trial for responding to old post

Article

Published: 14 Aug 2023 Update History

HMRC is continuing to focus on processing older post. Agents can use the agent account manager team to escalate cases more than 12 months old.

Since 10 July 2023, an HMRC taskforce has been focusing on clearing older post.

Agents can use the Agents' Issue Resolution Service online form to escalate any post that is more 12 months old. HMRC reviewed this initiative at the beginning of August and has decided to continue its availability, with no end date specified.

ICAEW’s Tax Faculty encourages members to use this facility. HMRC is also identifying older cases in its post queues, but it may miss some cases.

HMRC is also seeking to reduce post that is outstanding for the last 10-12 and 6-9 months. However, the agent account manager service is currently limited to post that is outstanding for more than 12 months.
